Where is Sardinia?

Sardinia is the second-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, located to the west of mainland Italy and south of the French island of Corsica. It is part of Italy and is known for its stunning coastline, crystal-clear, azure waters, and charming historic towns.

The island is easily accessible by air from several regional departure airports to the major airports in Cagliari, Olbia, and Alghero.

The best time to visit Sardinia will depend on the type of holiday you are after. If you want to benefit from the beautiful spring weather, fewer crowds, and temperatures ranging from low to mid-20s, we recommend visiting between May and June.

During the summer peak months, local towns and villages come alive with food festivals and markets, and beaches are at their best, with warm waters and pristine sands. The weather is glorious, and it is common to experience temperatures in the low-30s.

If you want to visit Sardinia when summer draws to a close but still boasts plenty of sunshine hours and temperatures in the mid-20s, visiting in September and October is the perfect opportunity to soak up the last bit of summer as the crowds ease.

With over 1,100 miles of coastline, it is hard to choose which Sardinian beaches are a must-see when on your holiday. If you want a detailed list of the must-see beaches and where you’ll find them, visit our guide section, where our destination specialists have compiled everything you’re looking for.

If this is your first time discovering Sardinia, we highly recommend hiring a car so you can make the most out of your time. Hiring a car gives you complete flexibility to explore hidden beaches, alluring regions, and the freedom to choose when and where.

You can find out more information on our car hire & transfers page.
